Bringing home a new kitten is an exciting and joyful experience — but it also comes with important responsibilities. At Sapphire Eyes Cattery, we want to ensure that every one of our kittens transitions into their forever home with love, comfort, and proper care.

Here’s everything you need to know to give your new Neva Masquerade Siberian kitten the best start possible.

🏠 1. Prepare a Safe and Cozy Space

Before your kitten arrives, set up a quiet area where they can feel secure. This could be a spare room, a bathroom, or a cozy corner with:

  • A soft bed or blanket

  • Food and water bowls

  • A litter box

  • Toys and a scratching post

Avoid overwhelming your kitten with the entire house at first — let them adjust slowly and explore at their own pace.

🍽️ 2. Nutrition and Feeding

Your kitten should be fed a high-quality kitten food (wet or dry) that supports healthy growth. Stick to the brand we’ve been using at the cattery for at least the first few weeks to avoid stomach upset.

Tips:

  • Fresh water should always be available

  • Feed 3–4 small meals per day for kittens under 6 months

  • Transition to adult food around 12 months of age

We will provide feeding guidelines and suggestions when your kitten goes home.

🧻 3. Litter Training

All Sapphire Eyes kittens are litter box trained before adoption. To maintain good habits:

  • Use the same type of litter initially

  • Scoop daily and clean the box weekly

  • Place the litter box in a quiet, easily accessible area

🧸 4. Socialization & Play

Siberian kittens are playful, intelligent, and affectionate. Spend time:

  • Playing with interactive toys (wands, balls, etc.)

  • Talking to and gently handling your kitten

  • Introducing them gradually to new people, pets, and environments

This builds confidence and strengthens your bond.

🐾 5. Grooming

Neva Masquerade Siberians have luxurious semi-long coats that are surprisingly low-maintenance.
Weekly brushing helps reduce shedding and prevent mats. During seasonal shedding, you may need to brush more often.

Also:

  • Trim nails every 1–2 weeks

  • Clean ears gently if needed

  • Start grooming routines early so your kitten gets used to them

🩺 6. Veterinary Care

Your kitten will go home with:

  • First set of vaccinations

  • Deworming treatment

  • Vet health certificate

You’ll need to schedule:

  • A vet visit within 72 hours of pickup (required by our contract)

  • Booster shots (your vet will advise timing)

  • Spay/neuter by 6–8 months (unless breeding rights are purchased)

🛏️ 7. Transition Tips

The first few days at home are a big adjustment. Your kitten may be shy, hide, or eat less than usual — this is normal. Be patient, calm, and reassuring.

Stick to a routine for feeding, playtime, and quiet rest. Within a few days, most kittens feel at home.
